LIB TALKS

**CENSORSHIP OF HEALTH INFORMATION:  There is no excuse for preventing people from trying any possible supports for their immune systems during a pandemic.  This is especially true when the supplements being suggested are clearly safe and effective, per many years of their use.  It is also the case that people are individuals that react differently to various substances and treatments.  (There have been a bunch of reports about injuries & deaths after receiving Covid vaccines, without clarity of causation). In this issue is a report about and petition against government stifling of information about alternative medicine options.  (Note: The value of Vitamin D vs. Covid is actually widely accepted, as reported in our January TIP TALKS).

**SIMILAR LACK OF GOOD INFO FROM GOVT. PER COSMETIC/FRAGRANCE TOXICITY:

Confusion reigns when trying to determine the type and toxicity of chemicals in fragranced products.

Even “unscented” ones can be contain such.  See this month’s Consumer Information section for excerpts from the agency “regulating” fragrance – and visit the excellent Environmental Working Group site for detailed and honest advice on this concern.

**TIP RELATED SUGGESTIONS & SUPPORT: We really like to hear from TIP TALKS readers about their own experiences with toxins in daily life & healthier alternatives.  Also, many of our usual website advertisers are dealing with COVID and we have not asked them for payments until they feel they can afford that.  So, assistance from anyone who appreciates our work is especially welcomed!  See ways to help at the bottom of this TIP TALKS including one at no cost to you.

FEDS ON VITAMINS AND COVID: SHUT UP OR PAY UP!

https://anh-usa.org/feds-on-vitamins-and-covid-shut-up-or-pay-up/

April 22, 2021 More lunacy from the federal government threatens doctors with $10,000 fines if they tell you the science about how vitamins and minerals can help with COVID. Action Alert!

The Department of Justice (DoJ) recently announced the first enforcement action against “deceptive marketing” of COVID treatments. The case involves a Missouri chiropractor who is alleged to have advertised that a vitamin D and zinc supplement could prevent or treat COVID—claims that are well-supported in the scientific literature. This is a disturbing and outrageous escalation in the federal government’s actions against doctors and health professionals that inform the public about natural ways of staying healthy during the pandemic, underscoring the need to change the law to allow the free flow of information about foods and supplements.

Previously, the FDA and FTC sent hundreds of warning letters to doctors and clinics discussing the role of natural medicines promoting public health during the pandemic.

Then a strategy was put in place to enable the FTC to go after these health professionals

with more force. The COVID-19 Consumer Protection Act was introduced on December 20 th in the House and Senate, and December 27 th it was signed into law.

SUPPORT THE FREE FLOW OF NATURAL HEALTH INFORMATION :  Food and supplements offer numerous health benefits. Yet we are blocked by the federal government from learning about many of these benefits, since food and supplements are not FDA-approved drugs. ANH is pushing for legislation that will allow food and supplement companies to cite respected scientific studies describing the health benefits of these products.  To effectively fight misinformation and support Americans' health, tell Congress to pass legislation to permit food and supplements to share and promote reputable, peer reviewed scientific studies.  https://secure3.convio.net/aahf/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=3745

SOME GOOD NEWS & NEEDED ACTIONS TO PROTECT BEES – AND US

********************************************\***************************************************************************

WALMART ANNOUNCED POLICY TO PROTECT BEES, BUT KROGER FALLS SHORT

Big news: Thanks to people like you, Walmart -- the largest food retailer in the world -- has taken a big step to protect bees.    Bees and other pollinators -- the cornerstone of our food system -- are in great peril, largely due to toxic pesticides.  Walmart’s commitments are a huge step forward in the fight to save them. Without pollinators, supermarket shelves would be pretty empty.  Walmart committed to address this crisis by asking its produce suppliers around the world who supply its U.S. stores to phase out the use of pesticides like neonics and chlorpyrifos, which are toxic to bees and other pollinators. And it committed to certify 100% of those global produce suppliers to ecological farming methods that protect pollinators by 2025 using independent third-party certifiers.  Walmart’s new policy also recognizes that organic agriculture is protective of pollinator health. Organic farming prohibits over 900 toxic pesticides, including neonics and chlorpyrifos. Research shows that organic farms can help reverse pollinator declines.

But Kroger, the largest grocery chain in the U.S., is falling short.  Kroger is not taking this crisis seriously enough. It is still selling products produced with bee-killing neonics and bee-toxic, brain-damaging chlorpyrifos.  Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators are dying at unprecedented rates, and Kroger could play a large part in saving them. The company must end the use of pollinator-toxic pesticides in its supply chains & increase bee-friendly organic offerings.  Urge Kroger to do its part to help save the bees. https://action.foe.org/page/28448/action/1?ea.tracking.id=Email&ea.url.id=820286&forwarded=true

TELL AMAZON TO TAKE BEE-KILLING PESTICIDES OFF ITS SHELVES

Our bee populations are in rapid decline, and neonicotinoids -- a dangerous class of bee-killing pesticides -- aren't helping. Yet you can still find these pesticides for sale on the world's No. 1 online marketplace: Amazon.  Right now, Amazon has a chance to make a major difference in protecting our best pollinators by removing bee-killing pesticides from its site. Tell incoming Amazon CEO Andy Jassy to help save our bees by ending the sale of products that contain neonicotinoids. https://environmentrhodeisland.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=43921

OTHER ACTIONS:

  DEMAND SAFE WATER!

Regulate ‘Forever Chemicals’ Now

Consumer Reports’ members helped test drinking water throughout the country, and the results are disturbing: Nearly every sample had measurable levels of PFAS, a group of compounds known as ‘forever chemicals’ because they don’t break down easily in the body or the environment.  Despite mounting evidence of widespread PFAS contamination and potential health risks — including cancer, learning delays in children, and interference with vaccine efficacy — the EPA has failed to set an enforceable standard for PFAS in our water. Join CR, Natural Resources Defense Council and Environmental Working Group in asking the Biden Administration to protect our health, and set tap water standards now that protect kids and vulnerable people from this contamination!   Sign The Petition! https://action.consumerreports.org/petition_20210331_pfas?EXTKEY=BEA14EP007&utm_campaign=20210421_water&utm_medium=email&utm_source=cr

WHY YOUR COSMETICS DON’T HAVE TO BE TESTED FOR SAFETY

www.pbs.org/newshour/health/why-your-cosmetics-dont-have-to-be-tested-for-safety

12-16-19  Before you head out the door each morning, you probably use cosmetic products like shampoo, deodorant & toothpaste. But the regulations that guarantee the safety of those products in the U.S. haven’t been updated since 1938.  Legally, companies cannot sell harmful products or misbrand their cosmetics.  However, with the exception of color additives, cosmetics and their ingredients  are not subject to premarket approval requirements or FDA safety review.

COSMETICS INDUSTRY CRUSHES BILL THAT

WOULD HAVE MADE MAKEUP AND HAIR PRODUCTS SAFER

https://www.latimes.com/business/lazarus/la-fi-lazarus-california-cosmetics-regulation-20190410-story.html  April 10, 2019 The $70-billion cosmetics industry prevailed over California consumers this week, succeeding in shelving a bill that would ban potentially toxic ingredients from makeup, hair products and other personal-care goods.

EXCERPTS FROM “FRAGRANCES & COSMETICS” PAGE FROM FDA

https://www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetic-ingredients/fragrances-cosmetics

**Fragrance ingredients are also commonly used in other products, such as shampoos, shower gels, shaving creams, and body lotions. Even some products labeled “unscented” may contain fragrance ingredients. This is because the manufacturer may add just enough fragrance to mask the unpleasant smell of other ingredients, without giving the product a noticeable scent.

**Labeling of Fragrance Ingredients:  If a cosmetic is marketed on a retail basis to consumers, such as in stores, on the Internet, or person-to-person, it must have a list of ingredients. In most cases, each ingredient must be listed individually. But under U.S. regulations, fragrance and flavor ingredients can be listed simply as “Fragrance” or “Flavor.”  Here’s why: FDA requires the list of ingredients under the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act External Link Disclaimer (FPLA). This law is not allowed to be used to force

a company to tell “trade secrets.” Fragrance and flavor formulas are complex mixtures

of many different natural and synthetic chemical ingredients, and they are the kinds of cosmetic components that are most likely to be “trade secrets”.

NOTE:  This web page also refers to diethyl phthalate, or DEP as a fragrance ingredient.

They claim that there is no proof of that being hazardous to human health.  However, there are statements from other sources to the contrary.  TIP will be doing some further research on this.

**TIP POSITION ON HEALTH CARE RE-STATED:  In this time of Covid, it is impossible for any organization or person not to speak of the health concerns and responses with which we are dealing.

I need to make this very clear – TIP does not endorse any medical treatment or drug, nor are we “Anti” vaccines or specific treatments.  As always, we simply stand for openness & fair consideration of research and science provided by others.  Mainstream sources tend to avoid or minimize info about toxins in products, pesticides in food, and the dangers of radiation. And they ignore or dismiss natural & affordable health care offerings.  So, we believe that, as do other countries, Alternative options for health care should be included in research & reporting, and available as choices.   This is especially important because One Size Does Not Fit All.

** TIP IS SMALL, ACTIVE, INFORMATIVE, NEEDY There is a need to update our website, as more and more good information cries to be shared & quick links are the best means.  Unlike many organizations, we don’t pester folks with calls for money, but I do ask today that anyone who can contribute any amount, please – this is the time.  Donations are tax-deductible.
