JOIN INTERFAITH POWER & LIGHT & A PANEL OF EXPERTS ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1,
TO DISCUSS NEW REPORT ON PREVENTING CHILDHOOD CANCERS
A new report that connects environmental toxins to increased rates of childhood cancer
was released this week. Childhood cancer is an environmental justice issue and
connected to our use of fossil fuels.  This is a heavy topic, but the good news is that
many of these cancers are PREVENTABLE   You are invited to join IPL and our partner
organizations for a webinar to discuss this report, and strategies for prevention on
October 1, 10am Pacific, 1pm Eastern. Register for the webinar here:

**IMPORTANT INFO & ACTIONS FROM THREE RESPECTED ORGANIZATIONS:
Several good and important actions are occurring even in this stressful and challenging time.
Some of the most sickening toxic substances are being targeted with strong efforts to
remove them from our lives.

1. The highly respected Consumer Reports people have recently been
coming forth with valuable information about drinking water concerns.
You can see some of their info and suggestions at:
www.consumerreports.org/water-quality/water-safety-and-quality-guide/

2. The similarly valued Sierra Club is calling for retailers to stop selling glyphosate
laden RoundUp pesticide.  Sign on in the Actions section.
My Comment to Home Depot & Lowes:  “This matters to me because I have had
a personal experience of the toxicity of Round-Up - & I know that many others have
even worse reactions and health problems from exposure.  If you have a bit of sense,
you will stop offering these sickening substances.  It is the right thing to do - and could
save you from taking part in the growing legal decisions resulting in millions of dollars
in compensation for injuries from Round-Up exposure.”

3. The great folks from the Organic Consumers Association are working to get Congress
to finally act to ban Round-Up – as has been done in Mexico & other savvy places.
Sign on in support of all three of these in the Action section.

NOTE RE: TIP SUPPORT:  Most of our usual advertisers are dealing with COVID and we
have not asked them for payments until they feel they can afford that.  The Good Seed is a
wonderful long-time TIP supporter that has this month generously given us their usual amount.
I thank them for that and encourage local people to visit this great resource.

Blessings, Liberty G

CURRENT EMF INFO & ACTION IN RHODE ISLAND (And Elsewhere)
*************************************************************************
Hi Rhode Islanders for Safe Technology. Through RI Public Libraries you can now
watch the award-winning film, Generation Zapped! It's "a compelling wake up call
about the health risks of our wireless world," says Ken Cook, President of the
Environmental Working Group (EWG.org).

"A Wi-Fi classroom is like the inside of a microwave oven set at very low power.
Children are exposed to that Wi-Fi radiation six hours every school day, five days a week,
and for several months during the year," warns Dr Magda Havas, Associate
Professor of Environmental and Resource Studies, Trent University (Canada).

Go to this library link for hoopladigital.com access. If using a mobile device, the best way
is to download the movie first, then switch to airplane mode to watch it. Tell your friends.
Start a conversation. Send them a link. Join RI for Safe Technology, Toxics Information Project,
and 5G Free RI and make safer technology happen. More info in comments below.
https://warwicklibrary.org/hoopla-digital

To use Hoopla to watch movies etc., says my librarian, requires "no waiting time for any of it!
The app can be used on a smart phone, streaming devices like Roku, etc., or on your computer.
If you go to the library's website, you will find the link to Hoopla on the lower right side.
You will need to set up an account using your library card and an email account."
If you have any questions, contact the Ocean State Library branch near you.

                                          ************************************
GET ‘FOREVER CHEMICALS’ OUT OF BOTTLED WATER!
Forty-three of the 47 bottled waters Consumer Reports tested had detectable levels of PFAS.
These chemicals have been linked to cancer, birth defects, and other serious health problems
in people with prolonged exposure. The EPA has refused to set limits on these ‘forever chemicals,’
but that shouldn’t stop the bottled water industry from getting them out of the water they sell.

This project, featured as the cover story for the November issue of CR magazine, also found that
carbonated water is more likely than noncarbonated to contain PFAS. Based on these results we're
calling on the International Bottled Water Association, a major industry trade group, to adopt a more
stringent standard guaranteeing no detectable levels of PFAS in bottled water.   Send a message to
the International Bottled Water Association to adopt a more stringent standard for PFAS in bottled
water — guaranteeing no detectable levels of these chemicals in the water we buy!

TELL HOME DEPOT AND LOWE'S TO STOP SELLING
                    BAYER-MONSANTO'S ROUNDUP® HERBICIDES!
Glyphosate — the active ingredient in Bayer-Monsanto’s Roundup® — is a probable carcinogen1 linked to increased risk of cancer. Last year, a jury ordered Bayer to pay $2 billion to a couple who used glyphosate on their lawn for decades and who both suffered from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Over 52,000 additional court cases are pending from others with this deadly blood cancer.  Instead of removing this product from store shelves, Bayer-Monsanto is trying to settle the lawsuits and keep selling this toxic herbicide. Under the terms of the deals, Roundup® would continue to be sold in the U.S. at places like Lowe's and Home Depot, without any safety warning.

These retailers can do a lot to end the use of this toxic weed killer in our backyards and across the country, but they need to hear from you!  We can't wait for the government to act someday or the Trump Administration to green-light more hazardous pesticides. We need to pressure the market and demand it be responsible to public health and the beloved pollinators that help grow cherished foods that we hope will feed generations to come. Send a message to Home Depot CEO, Craig Menear & Lowe's CEO, Marvin Ellison at: https://addup.sierraclub.org/campaigns/tell-lowes-and-home-depot-to-take-bayer-monsantos-toxic-roundup-off-the-shelves/petition?promoid=7013q000001b6ZmAAIutm_medium=email&utm_source=sierraclub&utm_campaign=pollinators&utm_content=roundup_home_depot

                       TELL CONGRESS TO BAN MONSANTO/BAYER’S
                        CANCER-CAUSING ROUNDUP WEEDKILLER!
In an unbroken string of victories for Roundup-exposed cancer victims, juries have ordered Monsanto (now owned by Bayer) to pay up to $1 billion per plaintiff for acting with “malice, oppression or fraud” to hide the fact that their glyphosate-based herbicide causes non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Members of Congress are taking notice, but so far, none have introduced legislation to ban glyphosate.
Please ask your Senators and Representative to step up.  TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to Ban Glyphosate!
