**ALLERGIES & THE PEANUT EXAMPLE:
This month’s story on the rise in food allergies brings to
mind my favorite argument vs. GMOs: I ask, “Is a peanut
natural?” “Is it safe?” Well, but what if you are one of the
many who can be sickened or killed by peanuts? So, same
questions re: GMOs, and another point of connection:
Many people are reporting getting sick from GMOs and
getting better on a non-GMO diet. GMOs are designed to
withstand increased herbicide use. Peanuts are one of
the most pesticided crops. Gosh, what a coincidence? (Not!)

NATURAL GRASS WINS TURF BATTLE AT SCHOOLS

School leaders support natural grass proposal for athletic
fields. May 17, 2017 After a yearlong debate, school leaders
are endorsing natural grass instead of synthetic turf for the
repair of the deteriorating athletic fields, both at the high
school and Island-wide. The Martha’s Vineyard High School
committee voted unanimously on May 11 to move forward
with a proposal from Vineyarders for Grass Fields, a local
group that has advocated for natural grass athletic fields.
The proposal calls for an organic program that’s in accordance
with Oak Bluffs and Island regulations around groundwater
quality and fertilizers, using natural and organic fertilizers,
soil conditioners, compost mixes, and top-dressings.
Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown is one of the first all-
organically maintained courses in the country, and Jeff Carlson,
superintendent of the golf course, offered his unpaid expertise
to the group, as did Craig Saunders, a local hydrologist.

TELL AMAZON, HOME DEPOT AND WALMART:
STOP SELLING MONSANTO’S ROUNDUP!
With everything we’ve learned about the health risks of
exposure to Roundup (and its key active ingredient,
glyphosate), & the lengths to which Monsanto has gone
to hide those risks, no ethical retailer should still be
selling Roundup to consumers. On one of its Roundup
product labels, Monsanto boasts: “Kills Weeds not
the Lawn.” What they don’t tell you is that Roundup can
also kill people—just ask the hundreds of people suing
Monsanto for failing to warn them that Roundup is linked
to non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It's time for big retail chains
to stop peddling poison. Period. TAKE ACTION!

Walmart and True Value are eliminating bee-killing neonicotinoid
pesticides! These companies are joining Lowe's, Home Depot,
Costco, & others in the fight to save bees. .There is only one large
garden retailer who is still holding out -- Ace Hardware. It’s time for
Ace to join its competitors and make a firm commitment to stop
selling neonics. Tell Ace to stop dragging its feet and join the fight
to save bees!

Companies listen to big numbers. For them to change, they have
to know that their customer base supports their new direction.
That’s why this petition is so important. It is more than just
a name and email, it’s showing the car seat industry that their
customers want car seats without the hidden toxic price.
Children’s car seat companies have been following the same
rules for too long, utilizing toxic chemical flame retardants. T
he 2016 Children’s Car Seat Study found that 87% of the car
